Porcelain bud vase

This bud vase is fired in the wood kiln as a way for me to see how porcelain would react to that environment differently from the other clays. It has a very soft look to it with slight orange shadows from the flame and some darker markings from ash accumulated on the surface. The side with ash is slightly rough and the sheltered portion is incredibly smooth.

This clay is incredibly white and it retained that character despite the fire. I was wondering if it would get any carbon trapped in the surface but it did not. I have not trimmed this with great attention to detail, porcelain feels so fancy, so some part of me wanted it to be imperfect. I also pressed a few small brick pieces into the clay near the base which have melted.

It fits one flower perfectly and holds water. Maybe three small stems could fit too.

Stamped on the base.
