Description
This unique bottle was thrown with some extra clay I had after making some bowls and is an organic form made without planning. The rim of the bottle is folded down creating a lip to help with pouring. Historically this was also done for added strength for bottles that would see significant use. I have carved a circle pattern near the base of the bottle, a motif I am playing with recently symbolizing the cyclical nature of all things. The bottom is minimally trimmed, maintaining marks from cutting it from the wheel head and also with my makers stamp. The glaze breaks over edges and pools in corners creating soft variations. The iron in the clay has melted into the glaze making small flecks of light brown also providing depth to the surface.
This bottle is a bit small for serving with but works great as a vase or decoration. A cork would fit in the opening if desired for use with a liquid that needs protection from air. It has a charming feel and would fit in nicely on a book shelf as well while waiting for some fresh spring blossoms.
