Description
Sommar på Stranden or Summer on the Beach in English. An experimental urn made using brick pieces I have collected from the beach during summer time. These old pieces of brick, worn by the sea, and washed up on the beach have their own stories to tell. There is 6 different pieces of brick that I have crushed and thrown onto the surface of the vase. They have different melting points and the darkest red ones have not melted at all.
The urn is glazed on the inside with a white glaze. It is signed on the bottom along with the name of the piece and my drawing of a river flowing out of the mountains. This is a marking I now only create on larger pieces. It symbolizes how there is a constant change in all things. Like water running out of the mountains pulling small rock particles to form clay in low lying areas, we too are flowing through life in own serene streams or raging rivers.
This work is an accumulation of practice and rumination about the use of local materials. I hope you like it.
